With nine months of digital marketing experience as an apprentice in a previous agency placement, I approached the managing director, Steve Harrison, to continue the remainder of my apprenticeship with Digital Discovery. The agency specialises in website design, digital marketing, search engine optimisation (SEO), pay-per-click (PPC), social media and conversion rate optimization (CRO).
Bringing with me an impressive, jam-packed CV and digital portfolio with a well-rounded experience in most aspects of digital marketing, the initial experience in an SEO/social media-heavy role made me an ideal candidate to take on to support the team.
My role currently entails managing our client’s social media accounts as well as our business accounts and website. I will be growing my knowledge of SEO working alongside Steve with the aim to continue my journey after the apprenticeship specialising in SEO.
I’ll also be taking up opportunities to learn about PPC and website design with the paid media manager, Dylan Kowalczyk, and head of development, Will Parker.
Definitely a night owl. Having just turned 18 before coronavirus kicked off, I’ve had the nightlife experience taken away early on. In a different reality, I would be spending most Friday nights and weekends in town. But for now, watching TikToks in bed till the late hours will have to do. Turning 20 this year, I hope to be back out enjoying my youth and getting my social life on track again.
Writing this whilst being 19 is hard to say. The last few years have been full-on, but I’ve kept going. I would probably say keep going, even when times are tough. Don’t take things personally. Everything happens for a reason.
I started learning to drive in 2019, two years later in and out of lockdowns, I’m still yet to sit my driving test. My test is in June 2021, so fingers crossed I pass.
I would pay off the mortgage on mum and dad’s house, purchase my first home and buy myself a new car. The rest would go into my savings, so I don’t squander it.
Living just ten minutes away from work means I’m home in no time. As soon as I’m through the front door the kettle is on. A cup of tea in one hand and my phone in the other, parked in front of the television for the rest of the evening.
I actually do like my last name, Kerfoot... But when it comes to ordering a Chinese we go under my mum’s maiden name, Wood - it’s easier to spell out and pronounce.
I’m obsessed with fantasy and fiction. I love all things Marvel, the Wanda Vision series on Disney+ has been my most recent favourite series. Wanda Maximoff (aka The Scarlet Witch) is my favourite fictional female character, her abilities include telekinesis, energy manipulation, reality-warping and much more. She’s an OG, why would you not want her powers?
My music taste varies. I'm happy to listen to anything, which comes in handy when listening to the types of tunes my colleagues blast out of the speakers in the office. My go-to genre is dance/electronic, bangers you would hear in a club (reminiscing before coronavirus). I’m not even embarrassed because club-mixes are actually the best.
My whole life I’ve always holidayed in the UK, with the occasional holiday abroad here and there. Mexico would be my top pick since I went there with my family as a kid. I’d love to experience it for myself as an adult where I’ll actually remember it.
The Marvel Universe. Particularly, the Golden City in Wakanda. It baffles me how they manage to hide an entire city in sub-Saharan Africa. I’d love to see the fictional technology they create, as I’m really into my gadgets.
Everything happens for a reason. Period.
